I am a certified financial planner (CFP), PhD graduate and former education professional with degrees in Spanish literature. Sometimes, I like to think that I am a little like Batman (minus the fighting crime part) – financial planner by day, literature fanatic by night. I like to think I have some pretty exciting adventures and it is my goal to help you do the same. Growing up, I was always taught the importance of risk management and protecting yourself and your family given my parents’ professions – financial security advisor and military communications officer. Because of the significant roles of both education and community in my life, I always try to find ways to help educate people whenever possible. My goal when meeting with clients is to educate them in financial literacy and help them become more confident about their financial wellness. I firmly believe that creating a successful financial plan with my client is a joint effort, requiring commitment, dedication and involvement on both ends. Like in the classroom, you need to be able to put the skills you are being taught into practice. Of course, I also understand that everyone learns differently and I make an effort to adapt my approach to the unique needs of the individual.

I was at a point in my life where my retirement was not too far in the future, so I decided to get a professional’s assistance. I did not think that the bank that “managed” my RRSPs was looking out as much for my benefit as their own.
